I told myself on the last day of finals that I would take at least one photo every day of winter break, to make sure I was consistently shooting. The problem isn’t the amount of photos I’ve taken, because I have been shooting every day. The problem (to some, anyway) is that I’ve only picked up my dSLR once. Take a boring photo with your 50mm f/1.8 prime wide open, with a small sliver of your subject in focus. Leave large portions of the subject outside of the focal plane, regardless of how important or interesting they are.
